Who would have ever thought that a pastor could get labeled as "apostate"? Pastor Hagee is the latest to be labeled as such for his views on the New Testament. We are hearing more and more about the apostasy of the church in the United States.
Question and Answer: Was John Hagee Wrong?
The idea that a pastor could be called "apostate" for his understanding of the Bible is simply wrong. The idea of a pastor being labeled as a "false teacher" or having a false view is completely incorrect. But in some circles, it is happening.
Let's examine this issue:
1. Pastor Hagee in a 2000 book titled "Jerusalem Countdown" wrote:
"Church leaders in America are often unbelieving scoffers, arguing with authority and tradition as if those in the past never made mistakes and did not know what they were talking about. In fact, the greatest threat to the church today comes not from secularism but from secular theology. And the greatest threat to a Christian life is not from critics but from the believers who are now rejecting the Bible's teachings." (Jerusalem Countdown, 2000, p. 48)
2. Pastor Hagee went on to say:
